For the love of eyes : It is an undebated fact that mobile phones have been a boon for many around the globe. Not only does it aid in connecting with the near ones, but also is equipped to function in several different ways (ex- online transfer of money, playing games, doing simple file transfers, and many such). Therefore, life without mobile devices seems like a gloomy affair.
But there are two sides to the coin. Using mobile phones has also created a setback of their own. With the rays hitting on the eyes continuously, it affects the eyesight and causes other side effects like headaches and loss of sleep in the long run. All of these effects become quite prominent during night time and thus make it very difficult to use mobiles.
But the developers of various apps have an answer to this in the form of dark mode. Thus, in our blog of the day, we would be focusing on this and discuss the possibility of implementing it on Snapchat.
What is a dark mode on Snapchat?
Also called a night mode, the dark mode is a setting where the background is altered to a darker theme and the usual color scheme is disabled for a temporary period. It is something that is getting rolled out in several apps, even by the likes of Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram.
With the onset of dark mode, now the use of mobile phones at night has become quite comfortable. It would not cause excessive strain to the eyes or lead to sleeping problems. In addition to this, the dark mode also helps in saving up the device’s battery power.
Thus, the users of Snapchat are quite curious to understand this feature in the app and if it could be used by them.

Is Night Mode Feature Available on Snapchat ?
Snapchat is a popular platform that is known for rolling out a good number of updates regularly and stay in line with user expectations. The latter always gets excited about every new feature on the platform. However, it is sad to know that the dark mode feature has not been rolled out yet by the developers of the platform.
Certain hearsay sources are stating that the feature is under pipeline by the developers and may need extra time before getting rolled out to everyone. In the meanwhile, the users are also getting quite anxious about it and looking for alternative means till the official one gets rolled out.
iOS Device : Alternative Way to Get Dark Mode on Snapchat
There are two popular alternatives to it- Jailbreaking the device to use a third-party app and using invert background feature in the official settings.
For the first alternative :
It is necessary to install the third-party app Nightmare. Unfortunately, it is not available on the App Store and needs to be downloaded in another way. Go for the given steps to set up the same:
- Open Cydia on iPhone and install iFile from it.
- Download the requisite package of Nightmare from it and then open it using iFile.
- Tap on the installer to extract it and begin with the process.
- Restart the device and re-launch the Snapchat app. You would find the chat background with a dark landscape (indicating the success of installation).
This method has been found effective in bypassing the Snapchat server detection for jailbreaking.
However, if you do not want to go for this method, then you can choose the latter one discussed above. It allows you to tweak the color scheme of the device and render the screen darker. Follow the steps given below for it:
- Open the device settings.
- Go for General->Accessibility->Display Accommodations->Tap invert colors.
- You would see two options for Smart invert and Classic invert.
- Alternatively, you can choose to reduce the White Point and make the platform easier for the eyes.
Do note that it would not affect the functionality of the app or distort the quality of images displayed on the platform. And the device dark mode would not work on Snapchat.
Alternate Way to get Night Mode on Snapchat for Android
Just like the iOS fans, Android fans also have an alternative that allows them to enjoy their favorite app in the dark theme. There is an app called Substratum that aids in the process. However, it requires you to root the device for work. Thus, follow the steps given below to execute it:
- Launch the device settings.
- Go to Security->Lock screen and security->Unknown sources. Enable the option to allow downloads from unknown sources.
- Go to the Play Store and download the Substratum app.
- Launch the app and open the theme that you want to get integrated into your Snapchat background.
- Select the device name and app on which it is to be implemented. Hit on the install option.
Thus, the process gets update completely. Recently, the app has given updates to support two different dark themes- Swift Black and Swift Dark. Alternatively, Android users can go for downloading blue light filter apps that aid in limiting the harsh rays from the device and save both power and eyes in the night.
Hence, we conclude on the alternative ways to implement dark mode in Snapchat (until the official update is rolled out). Do not hesitate to write back to us in case of any suggestions or queries.
